Title: M. Auratus tank mate?
Post by: Jellyanne on January 18, 2016, 07:32:29 PM
Hi guys!
I am totally new to cichlids and did not plan to own any. But so far I got no interest in the female I'm trying to rehome. I could end up adopting her and putting her in a 50gal.
Would she be able to have tank mates? (other cichlids or pleco types or snails?)
Is 50gal enough for her and where do I find rocks for cichlid set up?
So many questions...
Thank you!

50 should be ok, but I wouldn't go smaller.

pH for Africans is very high - plecos don't like it. Try to find other Africans with similar diets - other Mbunas (like labs, other melanochromis, pseudotropheus, etc.). I find they do best in larger groups.

I have rocks if you need.  Pm me if your interested. I keep bushy nose plecos and snails with my tanganyikins. Ph 8.4.8.6.  You can safely keep cichlid at the parameters of your city water with no problems.
