"Mystery" fish - can you solve the case?

Hello there,

I just came back from a trip to La Niche and brought back 2 unknown fish.
The first one is certainly a SA cichlid, but the other one is a mystery to me, and to Marc-André too.
The cichlid fish is a nice deep purple, almost eggplant. The eyes are dark and rimmed with red with shiny spots surronding them. The fins have a nice yellow hue. I'd say the fish is about 1½ inches now.
I suspect the other mystery fish could be a celebes rainbowfish.
It has two elongated fins trailing it, behind the dorsal and caudal fins, respectively. The trailing fins are black and yellow, and the body is silvery with slight blue/green shimmer. It is roughly 1 inch long.

I call upon your knowledge and insight, can you solve the case of the mystery fishies' ID?

Much thanks!

You might be on to something, because the fish looks like the one in the picture of the threadfin rainbow article here http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/show_article.php?article_id=235, except that the "trailing fins" are predominantly black in the mystery fish. But the body shape is spot on! ;)

It's hard to tell from the picture but I think it is a threadfin rainbow. The colors of some rainbows vary depending on the region they come from. There is usually a difference in colors between males and females too. The pic I found shows dark fins as in your mystery fish.

The rainbow is Iriatherina werneri, the threadfin rainbow. No question. It's a delicate, tiny mouthed fish that's easily bullied in communities, but stunning in groups. Yours is a male.

For the cichlid, it's hard to tell with the folds in the bag, but I think it's West African. Try google imaging Pelvicachromis humilis and see how it stands up beside your new fish.

I think you're right, that's him to a tee :)

Thank you both for your help!

Doesn't quite look like it :-\
Here are more pics:

There are others here too: http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;cat=394;u=2443
Just to clear things up in case the colours show up funny, the fish is a deep eggplant purple colour.

Thanks again!

Marc-André had mentionned the possibility of it being Apistogramma agassizii double red, but the pictures I had found so far didn't match.
But I just found these:

Could it be the same fish as mine, but older?
Mine again:

Thanks!

Looks like a female Apistogramma of some kind, very hard to tell which, perhaps agassizi, or bitaeniata, in stress colouring.
