I hauled some nice large pieces of drift wood from the river, i threw some into the pond and my freshwater tank.

Is there any danger to this? Could My fish catch something?

If not, HUGE intresting pieces by my place without the price!

Fishnut

Yes, potentially your fish could catch something.  There could be an abundance of insect like creatures living on the log that you wouldn't want in an enclosed environment and there is definitely the potential for passing on diseases to your fish.

Normally when you get a chunk of wood from a lake or someone else's tank, the best thing to do is scrub it, let it dry out then stick it in the oven to sterilize it with temperature.  That will ensure no water bugs in your tank and pond and eliminate any disease transfer.

Id do The oven thing except for the fact the pieces are taller then me or bigger then the oven  :o

They did dry out on the way back to my house though

The Pond Boy

For everything you add to or in your pond you are taking risk. If you really dry out the wood, the bacteria will not survive.
