sump questions

1. how much flow? lots or barely anything?
2. should i have crazy lights or just anything?
3. is it supposed to be allitle dirty or should i have a clean-up crew?
- cuz my understading is that if its dirty then more waste factor right? but! if its dirty more food for copods right?
