Changing my post

Hi --
I can't figure out how to change my post if (really when) I want to add or change before anyone else posts.  Am I supposed to be able to do this?  I tried the modify button, but it says I don't have authority or somesuch.

Thanks for any answer.  Feeling a bit dense,
