My hubby and I moved to Arnprior last summer. We're in the country now and our well is dug through 150 feet of limestone. So, the water is really hard and although we're using a water softener, there's a lot of magnesium left in the water. Also, my tank is a low to medium light tank. If memory serves, java fern and java moss do well in this type of water. Is that correct? Does anything else?  The only thing surviving in my tank right now are crypts, although they aren't doing great. Any suggestions?

I keep hard water cichlids. The only plant that thrives in those conditions are Vals. They grow like crazy. I throw away a handful every second water change. I also keep crypts. Not sure what sub species as I'm not a plant person but they suffered for a while then rebounded to at least live well enough. Been  at least 5 years. Just never flowered.

Thanks for responding, Mike. I'll look into finding vals in this area. :)
