Photo Size in Gallery

I have been coming across an issue uploading photos to the gallery. It keeps telling me that my files are too big. In order to post them I have had to bring them into photo shop crop any extraneous area,reduce the size of the phote to 50 TO 25% of its original and save them as the lowest quality posible for a jpeg, still some of them were too big.

Then I went and looked at some other peoples photos only to find that some were 50 times the size of the ones I could up load (30kilobites versus 1500kilobites). Is this only an issue I am having, is it me or is it the system?

It's always the system! 

The magic number to upload to the gallery is 1500: any pic should have the the same or smaller height, width and size in kB to make it onto the server. Please contact me via PM if you think your pic should pass these limits.
