I'm short on time but I wanted to get this up asap.  I'll add more later.

This is our speaker for January:

http://www.aquainspiration.com/

They will be doing a demo Amano style for us and are willing to bring some products/plants, etc for us to buy.  If you are interested in having them bring anything to Ottawa for you to buy from them, please PM me and let me know.  I'm compiling a list.

Cheers
Sylvia

The exec meeting is on Monday evening so we'll be discussing the rest of the meeting at that point.  As soon as our wonderful Webmaster has time after that, he'll be posting all of the details on the home page and as a sticky in this forum.

These guys aquascape in the Natural Aquarium style, which Takashi Amano is known for so their shop is full of everything you need and more to be successful in the wold of planted tanks.  They'll definitely be doing a demo of planting one of these tanks and I'm sure as the demo is going on, they'll be able to answer any questions people have about plants.  I'll be talking with them in more detail over the next couple of weeks so I'll hopefully be able to pinpoint if they're going to be doing part talk and part demo, or what.  Regardless, it's going to be a lot of fun!

I would like to compile a list of items that people want to purchase.  If you want to buy something like a plant or some live fish, you need to pay for them in advance.  This is something I decided to implement.  It's only fair since they might suffer losses if someone decides not to show up to pay for their requests, then the fish has to stay in the bag for an even longer period of time and get back to Toronto.

They have some amazing things in this shop!  I was there not too long ago for the first time and I was blown away.  Have a look at the starfire tanks!  Stunning!!  Here are some pictures of my favourite displays in their shop:

What time is this meeting, I work a 12 hour day in arnprior. Was thinking if it's not too early I'd come down to Ottawa and actually become a member lol

daworldisblack

Very Exciting! I was wondering if we'd be able to grab the updated livestock and plants list.. or at least whatever they are willing to transport up ..maybe with prices? That would be sweet :)

Two more sleeps  ;D
Well waiting those 2 sleeps was well worth it, easily the best attended meeting of the season, it sure  hilighted where the club`s bread & butter lies.
Kudos to the all involved in pulling this off, just imagine if it was a Tom Barr or Takashi Amano or any other of that stature  ;).
Thanks

DaWolfe

"Tom Barr or Takashi Amano".... WOW!!! that would be amazing.

I must say, that was my first ovas meeting and I was impressed. I enjoyed the AI presentation, and I learned a couple of minor aquascaping things; ie output and intake flow with regards to the elevation of the substrate. I also enjoyed putting a name to a face and meeting a few folks too. Look forward to what 2012 has to offer. Looks like the planted tank fever is definitely here to stay. Now hopefully the retail businesses in ottawa area take note and begin to offer some of these products.

Thank you Winnie for translating! :)

I wish I could have stayed till the end, but the roads were pretty nasty and I had to pick up my roommate at 9pm! it was a dicey trip home once we got outside of the city!

The newsletter is amazing!! Thank you Andre!

It was great seeing lots of new faces!!! Looking forward to seeing you all again soon! (I have to miss the February meeting, but i'll be back for the Giant Auction!)

I enjoyed the meeting very much, and it was nice seeing many of you once again.  Strangely, the driving was fine coming in from Burnstown.  We didn't experience anything other than rain.

As has been previously mentioned, thanks to Winnie for her translating!

Rybren

I must say that the presentation was terrific.  Between last night's show and seeing pics of Errol's tank, there was a great temptation for me to pull out one of the old tanks in the basement and set up a planted system.  Then I got home and looked at my reef and thought... nahhhh.

We will get to you in time, our plan is to keep tugging at your heart strings  ;D

I got an email from our original contact at Aqua Inspiration, Sam:

Hi Sylvia,

Lei and Alex told me it was a fantastic gathering on Tuesday night and they loved your club. Thanks to Winnie as with her help to translate, the presentation went smoothly. We are also appreciated for your invitation and help received from club members. We will try our best to bring in more and better equipments for aquascapers and also improve our English to communicate better next time.

There will be new products, which are also new to the local market, arriving in beginning of Feburary.
In March or April, Frank, a shirmp breeder coming from Vancouver, will have a presentation to set a shrimp tank in our store. (Details to be advised)

Thanks again and keep in touch.

Best regards,

Sam

I've alrady expressed our interest in the shrimp talk.  I don't know about everyone else, but that's one particular subject that I would LOVE to hear a good talk on!!
