Part 2: Tapping the OVAS resource: Skimmer

I have an 'My Reef Creation' skimmer.

Every so often, it suddenly produces tons of foam and fills the cup with tea-coloured water very quickly.  Otherwise, I have it set to produce a reasonably dark skimmate, such that it could fill a cup in a little over a week.  I can't say how quickly this happens.  I tend to open the hatch twice a day to check on things, so it's happening in less than 8 hours.

My only theory is that a chunk of 'plaque' is getting into the chamber and flushing around, causing exessive foam.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

Does this normally happen after feeding something to the tank or adding something else into the tank?
