OVAS-News

Hello everyone and happy belated new year,

The OVAS Executive would like to give you an update on the status of the club.

Tom Brown Arena remains closed as it has been turned into a respite center for those experiencing homelessness.  To continue to ensure the health and safety of all of our members, we will not be starting up any in person meetings and unfortunately this also means that the Giant Auction will be cancelled this year as well.  We would like to thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these uncertain times and we hope to be able to meet in person again once it's safe to do so.  In the mean time, we encourage everyone to keep using our forum to ask questions, post updates, show off your set ups and buy/sell while maintaining social distancing.

Please continue to join us during the monthly OVAS Hangouts on Zoom.  These are free, virtual events hosted by the Ottawa Valley Aquarium Society.  Anyone with an interest in aquariums and related hobbies is welcome to attend.  The idea is just to get together virtually, talk about anything related to the fish keeping hobby, do some tank tours, show off your tanks and other pets and just socialize.  Keep an eye on your email for the meeting info.  However please be advised that emails are sent to current club members as we have your emails in our membership database.  If you are not a member, please <a href="https://www.ovas.ca/ovas/about-ovas/contact-us">send an email to us asking to be added to the mailing list.    We have also decided to hold the remaining monthly meetings for this season virtually via the OVAS Hangouts on Zoom.  The dates are as follows:

Mar 31 @ 7:30 pm
Apr 28 @ 7:30 pm
May 26 @ 7:30 pm

Current members will have their memberships extended until September 2021.  We have contacted some of the sponsors and will be talking to the remaining ones to let them know that any membership cards that expired in September 2020 will still be valid.  This will ensure that members can continue to get the benefits of the store discounts.  As we are approaching March, OVAS mid-season, new members can purchase a membership for the remainder of the season at a discounted price.  Details can be found on the <a href="https://www.ovas.ca/ovas/about-ovas/membership">Membership page.  OVAS thanks new and returning members and sponsors for their continued support.

Last exciting item to mention is that OVAS will be turning 67 on March 11th. Happy birthday OVAS!

If ovas wants to set up an 'online auction',
Where members can post and bid on items, I will be happy to give a hand.

I second hayleyoyo.  There certainly must be a way to coordinate an online giant auction, where people bid on pictures/videos and exchanges function just like a regular kijiji sale.  No?
