I picked up a cedar log on the side of the river. I cut the top half to make a nice piece of driftwood. It's all ready to go....wonder if it is suitable to put in the aquarium since it still has the cedar resin smell. I plan on boiling it over a few days... to get it waterlogged and get rid of the parasites.

Wonder if boiling it for a long time will make it suitable? (Get rid of resin...)  And even if it still smells, is it suitable?

Thanks for you advice ahead of time! ;)

Cedar wood contains cedrol and cedrene. There are reports of both having the characteristics of toxicity to many pests, as well as antibacterial, antifungal and antitermitic activities. In fact, Cedarwood oils are sometimes used as "natural" bug repellents and insecticides.
At a guess, I would think it might have a negative impact on the bacterial colonies in your filtration system.
I wouldn't chance it.
