Can i make a driftwood out of wood?

so...i have been searching over the internet and people say you can make a driftwood out of a regular wood by boiling and putting it under the water for a month.

does anyone know definitely?

ive found this good looking piece outside and i was not sure if it is true...currently i put it in the big plastic bucket. it is too big to boil it in the pot so i dumped hot water couple times.
