Some body told me that they can change sex, so that if you have two of the same one will change. Is this true or was he talking through his hat.

True, some can change both ways - male to female, female to male

Not entirely true. Clowns will go from immature (sexless)->male->female. They can not regress the other way. A clown will become female if no other female is present, but a female can never become male again once it has made the change.

Here's a good FAQ on clowfish if you want more detailed info: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=215088

hope the fish aren't as confused as I am.

Buy a pair of clowns when they are small and one will change, the larger is the female.
Don't get two full grown clowns, it won't happen!
