No skimmer on my frag system and there is SPS in there doing well.  My parents system has no skimmer and its thriving.  Regular water changes are key!

yup jet some people don't  use skimmer "miraclemud refigium" i saw one on youtube , this guy from germany he had atleast 300g tank w/out skimmer only sump ( miracle mud substrate & cheato's) cal re-actor. amazing tank, i mean i have caribic mud in my sump which is same as the miracle mud sand & i'm still using a skimmer. i would prepare a skimmer for my tank just to be balance & safe.

vic622

I agree, cheato & other macro in a sump/fuge = lots less excess nutrients floating around.
My last tank with a fuge & lots of macro consistently had 0.00 nitrates.

120g Peninsula Tank

Bronze & Pepper Corydoras, BN Plecos, Yoyo Loaches

yup, some tanks r really skimless.

but presumably skimless tanks r beyond my ability.

or probably i can try some cheaper alternatives.

kole18

for me its better to have a skimmer, specially if you got a bigger tank.
