Joined last week and have sent a few people, including moderators, an email and have heard from no one. Decided to post here to see if this is a phantom forum where nobody exists. Maybe someone will respond. I feel like I am in the movie -"I AM LEGEND" where I am the last man on earth.
I asked the question :
Do you think that the BREEDERS listing can be updated at some point?   No response as yet.
Does anyone out there in or close to Ottawa or better still --- Kemptville (Leeds & Grenville), breed Pseudotropheus Saulosi?
Are there any Auratus Breeders while I'm on the Breeder Topic?

I was happy when I found the Ottawa Valley Aquarium Society after looking at www.cichlids.com for so long. I think Cichlids.com is in the U.S. and to buy fish, I would like to go and get them myself rather than have them shipped by plane or UPS.

I have a 40 gallon Breeder tank and just finished building my own Knotty Pine stand with the frame being 4 x 4 pressure treated. Quite pleased with myself as I am not really a carpenter, but saved a lot of money on a nice sturdy stand rather than buying the particle board that's out there at around $400. The materials cost me about $160.00 + tax.

I bred Auratus over 20 years ago and got the bug again. But I came across the Pseudotropheus Saulosi the other day and fell in love with these little guys so I want my first Breeder tank to accomodate them.

Anyway, before I ramble on too long, hopefully there are readers or members out there that might care to reply and get me started again with some great looking Cichlids.

Hi,

I know nothing about cichlids or local breeders, so I can't help you there. Sorry.

I would, however, like to extend a warm OVAS welcome to you.  The folks here are generally great at helping folks out, but it is summer holiday season and the board isn't as active as it is other times of the year.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Cheers

Welcome to the OVAS.
As for  breeders of cichlids, there are plenty of persons on here who may on occasions have a few for sell.

The forum sponsors are great.

By obtaining a club membership the savings do add up.

At times there are people who come into Ottawa from out of province and some times they will bring in fish, such as Spencer Jack from Winnipeg.

Enjoy the club and friendships that you make on here.

While we were in Winnipeg we raised many African Cichlids and even when we moved to Ontario we did, now we are in the journey of salt, and its a massive learning curve, but a good.

As we stated welcome and enjoy.

Hi and welcome.  :)  Yep, it's summer and things slow down so you might not get a response for awhile depending on who you msg'd.  I think we're trying to fix up the breeders list, but it's not going to get done during the summer.

As for the fish you're looking for, you could try posting in the classifieds (if you haven't already) or we do have some vendors listed here you could order from.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

Welcome to the OVAS web site, as you can tell from the responses we are a vibrant & helpful bunch of hobbyist, the web community is only one part of the club`s benefits , we are a organised  club that holds monthly meetings where we try to provide interesting events , such as guest speakers, mini auctions & a opportunity to socialise & interact one on one.

AS one of the moderators , i apologise  for you not getting a reply to your e mails, i don`t recall getting one which was probably due to a glitch in our mailing system ( this has happened before), i`m sure our web master will rectify that shortly once the summer frenzy settles down.

The Breeders list is currently under reconstruction by our BAP & AHAP chair, he has a post seeking the assistance of the members in getting this accomplished.

Again welcome & enjoy our on line community, hope to see you out at our monthly meetings once we star the new season commencing in Sept.
Cheers

Thanks for the responses people. Guess I'll post in the classifieds for Cichlids as most of you suggested. Yes, I guess lots are away for the summer, if you can call it summer. Feels more like April with these cool temps. What's with that? Haven't done a profile yet but if you're interested, you can see Judy and me at www.southpawspetsitting.com

Hi Ian!

I personally wanted to say welcome to OVAS.  I hope you get everything you are looking for here!  I think its great to have more members with different points of view and experiences adding to the site.

As already pointed out above, if you have any questions just ask.  There are loads of people just waiting to answer all of your questions and learn from your own experiences.  It's a good cooperative sharing environment and I think you'll find you get what you put into it... if you can get thru the classifieds that is... LOL!

In all honesty, welcome to OVAS...
