Wow, I was on an 'extensive' search to find a society such as this! I would bump into alot of American Societies but I wanted something closer to home so this is awesome! I have been interested in Freshwater Fishes since I was a teenager ( not too long ago:p) and I had my own community tank of Guppies, Neon and Cardinal Tetras, Bumblebee Gobies and a Betta(Bettas got me started on the whole fish thing:)). I eventually became a little more adventurous and decided to breed Bettas, since the process seemed so intriguing and I successfully had a nice brood of Betta Fry and I remember I had to separate them eventually and I had done so using Ferrero Rocher Chocolate containers that had some aquarium gravel in them with cut up file dividers slotted strategically so for a period of time, i could have 3-4 babies in such a container haha. Eventually i had 16 adults which i gave away to friends but it was such an awesome and taxing process but rewarding at the same time!

Then I moved for school and now I am done and itching to get back to the hobby. I had a miniature tank with 2 Gouramies and some ghost shrimps and a freshwater crab once while in school but now I want to try keeping Killifishes. I read up on them tons when I was younger and found them to be AWESOME! So this brings me to my question: Does anybody breed Killifishes in or around the Ottawa Region. I could ship eggs in from the states (or even thailand..not really) but its not the best of times and I'd want to avoid customs and support local breeders. My search also brought me to a guy in Markham, Ontario called Frank but I was wondering if there was someone here just as awesome? Haha.. Please let me know and I would love to show up to a meeting sometime and get membership:)

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to OVAS!

Do you mean Frank of Frank's aquarium? Ya, he is a big friend of killifishes and apistogramma. There's another guy lives just outside Markham, he has few hundred 5-10 gal tanks in his basement! I was at his place once. He won lots of trophies. Will see I can find  his contact number again! Another option is contact SAM of Montreal, I know few of their club members are in killie. Getting the eggs from around the world is the best method to expand your collection!  ;)

Thanks for the welcome jetstream! Yeap I was referring to Frank of Frank's Aquarium:P I e-mailed him via his website but have yet to hear back. He has awesome bettas too it seems! It would be great if you could hook me up with some of the locals for sure and in time, global domination is imminent! ;)

Welcome!

As jetstream mentioned, I understand that some of the SAM (montreal aquarium society) folks are into killis and that there's also a killi-quebec group.

Thanks Laura! I managed to google-translate some of it and seems that they are pretty awesome over there! Too bad I did not see a forum on SAM's site. Thanks again though for the welcome and the suggested link :)
