I will be transferring my plants from my 55 gallon to a new 75 gallon this weekend. I have snails and hair algae in the 55. Is there any sort or treatment I can do to the plants to help get rid of the snails and algae before putting them in the new tank?

BigDaddy

Bleach dip.

1 part chlorine bleach, 19 parts water.  Dip for anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, depending on how hardy the plant is (java fern can take 3 minutes... fragile stem plants 30 seconds)

Rinse in water treated with above average dose of dechlorinator.  Then rinse again... lol

Will kill the algae and the snails.

rosy barbs will take care of both - and when you are done with them - i'll take them

Which problem does the Potasium Permanganate take care of, snail or algae?

luvfishies

It can take care of *some* algaes, and will definately get rid of snails and any snail eggs.

dpatte, you mentioned rosy barbs. will they eat the snails of algae?
will tiger barbs do the same?
