Title: java moss wont sit still
Post by: new2H2O on August 18, 2006, 10:33:41 AM
i have a bunch of java moss in my 55g and i love it but it just wont stay still. it likes to travel, every time i look over at the tank its in a new shape and spot. im rying to get half the tank as an open swim area lightly planted and th other to be some nice java moss for the littler guys to hide in. HELP!!!

i tried tying it to a piece of driftwood but that didnt work.

Any thoughts?

Couple of options

If it's dense enough, you can weigh it down in the middle with some gravel...

Othewise, cotton thread liberally wrapped around it and driftwood.  The cotton will eventually deteriorate and by then the moss will be embedded in the wood.

I kinda jammed mine into cracks in my driftwood, and now its spread along the surface of the wood and won't come off.

:D I did`nt have much faith at first that it would ever grow into anything,, but , its sure done very well,...I tied with some black bell
canada phone wire around a chunk of drift wood,.. some fish love the mass of greenery, and swim into it... one day I`ll have to cut the stuff back...

I've never had much luck growing the stuff.  I get the odd piece of green here an there but nothing substantial.  I've tried jamming, tying etc but it usually floats away and eventually turns brown and shuffles forth from this mortal coil.

I agree with zapisto, fishing line works for me and you can't see it.  Eventually you can remove line once it has attached itself to rocks or wood.

i used the gravel methode, and it looks great, or did, i think it might be covered in weird hair algea now though. it worked well, and it got this realy cool layered effect going.

I'll vouch for that - Sean's java moss looks really neat!
