Hey,
I'm hesitating here on what to do. I bought a used tank about a month ago and as I was cleaning it one last time before I was gona fill it up, I notice a little wear & tear on the silicone in 2 corners of the tank. Now I know for a fact the tank wasn't leaking b/c I had to empty myself when I picked it up but since the tank is empty , I was wondering if I should re-seal the corners now or wait. The tank is about 4 yrs old, I don't know much about the hobby but I would assume that the silicone lasts more than 4 yrs in a typical tank.
I'm also afraid of making things worst by trying to fix something that's not broken ... you know, if it ain't broken don't fix it ... especially if you've never sealed anything in you life before...
In other words, I'd like to know if a little wear & tear is normal after a few years and if I should be worried about it or not
Thanks
Silicone should definetly last longer than 4 years. A little wear and tear in the corners is probably natural with substrate rubbing against it, etc.
IMHO, if you're concerned, put the tank on your back porch and fill it, leaving it for a week. If you don't get any leaks, I doubt you will.
