Can anyone maybe identify this bristle worm. he's at least 7 inchs long and lives in my galaxea. i dont know if he's benenficial but i dont like him in there, the coral doesnt seem to be happy either. tried one of those trap em' trap s but he had his head right at the food and his body was still an inch out of the rock and who knows how much longer....i had a fish line hooked to the trap so i yanked it up as fast as i could but he still managed to retreat back into the coral. he clearly has two eyes and a mouth, about 5 big whiskers in the front. i'll try and get that trap back from my sister to get some better pics, i dont wanna give him a free meal though. he actually doesnt mind coming out under full light either.

Which one do you think?
Could be parasitic if the coral isn't doing well.
i like that site its the best ive seen so far for assorted worms but mine doesnt seem to be there. im just assuming its a bristle worm, but it doesnt really have bristles, more like a million legs, like a centipede. and his face is unmistakeable, same with the whiskers. do worms have eyes? i think i gotta double check mine cause im sure this guy has two. he's actually kinda cute with his face and all, reminds of my kuhli loachs face's
This guy does not look like bristleworm for me :-\
My bristle worms look completly different, as if they are just worms with brushes.
Yous can be Scavenging polychaete (Eunice antennata)
Not sure, everybody saying they are good, I nevertheless killing them when I can catch them (This does ot happen very often...).
i dont mind the bristleworms anymore, this guys completely different though, he's over twice as long as any bristleworm i've ever seen. and he wont leave the galaxea, he's been in there for months. sweet i just found this at least

i found this website im gonna try cutting the coral apart, im gonna have a few frags i guess. i read on another website about a guy taking a hammer and chisel to his rock to get this exact same type of worm out, i should have save that webpage
http://www.reefs.org/library/farmertodd/frag/lps/2.htm
i wonder how long the coral can survive out of the water like that?
I have one of those worms. he is long and I wasn't sure what it was either. Although for me to break the rock would mean taking everything out since the rock is on the bottom. If you findout a differant way perhaps you can post it.
Just wondering: anyone tried to use something like this:

i tried that trap my sister has it, it simply just isnt long enough, the worm is over lwice as long as the trap so he goes in and out with ease. i ade my own variation which was longer, about 8 inchs, and the worm maganged to still get the food at the bottom, and i even pulled out the trap when he was alll the way in and i still couldnt get him
i am one happy camper ;D

Nice hunting you had. You are one coral fragger :) !
Is it you galaxea?
yeah its doing alright i got 1 half, 2 quarters. my tank looks better now than it did b4 the little ones were easier to place. i went to marionescape for some info cause i think my galaxea could be healthier and they said check phosphates. hopefully the removal of the worm will help.. i also got 2 sep frags one with 2 polyps, another single polyp frag too.

yikes, how did you know you have that worm in your tank?
i'm surprised nobody has broughten this up, but six line wrasses eat different types of worms and keep this problem under control.
that worm will eat the sixline wrasse for sure ;D!
that's good to know about the wrasse, there was a 3inch+ bistleworm right underneath my goby but he didnt seem to care. i was disapointed he didnt eat it, arnt worms what we use as bait when we go fishing? ;) i saw the worm in the coral long time ago, but he didnt bother me. i saw him in there again when i got the coral back from my sister and i knew right away he wasnt a reguler bristleworm....and the galaxea doesnt open up full tilt, neither does my moon coral for that matter, marinescape told me lps corals are mosre sensitive to phosphate, so i got a test kit but the phosphate levels seem to be at zero. hopefully the live phyto will bring out the galaxea after a while, i'll just give it some time....
There are different types of worms...
If 6-line can take care of flat/tube/fan worms (I'm not sure about it as mainly it will try to get mysid shrimp/pods), it is useless agains bristle worms (at least I never heard this). Otherwise it will the the solution to all problems :). You will find very small number of fish that will hunt on this type of worms and mainly they are not reef-safe.
I tried dottyback (one of the reef-safe), but it was not interested even in smallest of the worms. So does my coral banded shrimp, even somedoby has picture of this shrimp hunting bristleworms - it seems depends on the particular fish/shrimp.

I know I just got up but Az you wrote the worm will eat the six line wrasse.
I had a fairy wrasse which definitely ate worms.
Try some carbon in your skimmer or hob for a bit, and please provide a listing of corals so I can figure out which ones we can trade or frag ;)
How about this worm?

i wasnt serious but look at the size of the worm :o.
insanity. im even more glad i got rid of mine now
i think this is a true rarity in SW! try to find another one of these monster's reported in somebody else's tanks.
