Title: How to clean an Eheim filter
Post by: zurus on February 01, 2007, 09:52:20 PM
I have 2 eheim canisters for my 90 gallon that I bought used a couple months back which need to be cleaned. The only problem is that I don't know what I am suppost to clean/change. The previous owner didn't get a chance to show me what to do.

So... what do I do???

The easy answer is... I pull all the media out... rinse the biomedia in tank water, and wash everthing else out with hot tap water.

Clean out your tubing!  Even a thin layer of scum can reduce flow significantly.

Big Al's carry brushes with monofilament that will pull through the tubing, not that expensive either.

Well that seems easy. When I bought it the seller mentioned that something was expensive right after he was talking about how to clean it. I thought he meant that I would have to change/replace something whenever I cleaned it. I guess he was talking about buying the canister.
