Title: Will carbon remove plant ferts?
Post by: PuddleDuck on February 25, 2007, 03:05:48 PM
Just wondering if carbon or ammonia chips remove plant fertilizer from the water? I know carbon will remove a lot of meds and buffers, so I wonder about ferts...  ???

Thanks!

I was told to take the carbon out of my filter because I am using Flourite as a substrate.  Of course ferts are a bit different but . . .

There is a lot of debate that carbon will remove trace elements, but i have not read anything that has proved this , some suggest the effect on trace elements is very minimal.

I have run a carbon pad in my canister filter before in my high light tank and did not see any nutrient deffeciencies.  In high light, if carbon was rendering the trace elements ineffective, I should have seen major deffeciencies with my fast growing stem plants.  I didn't.
