Title: Thermometer to a PC?
Post by: darkdep on April 09, 2007, 10:43:07 AM
Does anyone know of a product or system that allows an aquarium monitor of some type to be connected to a PC?

One of my tanks seems to be fluctuating temp wise.  I thought it might be neat to hook up a thermometer to a computer for say, a 24 hour period to see how much the temp fluctuates over the day.  Thought it might be a good tool also to test how reliable my heaters were.

Not sure about hooking up any old thermometer to your PC, but there are datalogging thermometers out there. We sell them. They can get quite expensive though for a thermometer. With the software, cabling, thermometer, calibration certificate, you are looking in the range of $400-$500.

You could just buy a digital thermometer with Max/Min logging on it. They are cheap, cheap, cheap. This way you could see what the lowest temp and highest temp your tank hits in a given period of time. :)

That sounds like it would work.  Any idea where I'd find one like that?  I have seen digitals, but not specifically one with max/min logging...

Check out this kit.  Not sure if its water proof though.

I know that the TOM's brand of digital thermometer, can be had from a number of stores, but BA kanata have some for sure, and they have a clock with a number of features, one of them being a record of highs and lows for the day in temperature. The alternative would be to get the DW to stop messing with the thermostat for the house. It is only about $15 to $20 for a unit. go buy one for every tank and the refrigerator.

Go to koolance.com, they make a pci card that can monitor the temp of anything.  They specialize in liquid cooling computers, but that card will do what you are looking to do.  I think it will monitor up to 8 different sensors, so you could monitor your fish wall. :) I can help you out with it and so could BigDaddy.

A number of controllers, such as the Reefkeeper Elite allow data logging and graphing, and to export all this info to a PC. Then again, if it's just temperature you want to chart/ log, this may be overkill. .. from their website

If you were already in the market for a controller might be something to look at.

The post you are referring to has been removed, as well as the posters account, due to spamming the forum with useless messages with commercial interests, not to mention frankenposting.

Sorry, for wasting you efforts.

What are you talking about? I was merely trying to help the OP, and was sharing information about a unit that I have done research on that may meet his needs. I copy/pasted some info from Digital Aquatics website in the hope that it would be useful; it certainly was to me. What post or posters account are you referring to? Sorry if I made some mistake or broke the rules.

In any case, here is a link:

http://www.digitalaquatics.com/saltwater/RKE (http://www.digitalaquatics.com/saltwater/RKE)

The RKE is far more than I need right now, but the ability to graph etc etc is very tempting. Something to look into IF you had the need for the added features, otherwise something like the above posters suggested, the PCI card etc.. would work great.  I have no affiliation with DA.

Sorry mikerobart, that was not directed against you.

Look at the thread dates, its over two years old. Somebody else, a spammer, has revived this thread, posting something useless to place a commercial link. The spammer and post have been deleted.

Unfortunately, you already replied to help. It seemed like you quoted from the spammers link, that why it got deleted. I apologize if that wasn't the case.

Sorry my bad, didn't see the thread dates and realize what was up! Will pay more attention next time.
