Title: Economical Foam For Filter
Post by: RossW on August 03, 2007, 08:45:13 PM
Anyone care to reveal where they buy replacement foam for their filters?  My Fluval requires foam which is about 10x1x3 or something close to that.  I do not think there is anyway I could cram polyester fill in there instead of foam.

Of course, I am looking for economical alternatives  ;)

Is the blue foam from Big Al's as economical as it gets?

How often do you replace it? I have had a chunk of that open celled blue stuff for a couple of years. It is pretty rugged.

Excellent question!  I have not replaced it yet but am also not sure how often I should.  I keep rinsing/squeezing it out during water changes and it is holding up fine.

Just keep rinsing and squeezing out until it falls apart.    We use those sponges for months or years!
