Title: Help: Trouble with Java Ferns
Post by: PineHill on August 26, 2007, 03:37:27 PM
My Java ferns are producing nice offspring, however a week ago the offspring started to have from trouble.  Starting from the tip of the new leaves, the colour is starting to change to a darker shade of green and looks as if it is dying.  I am wondering what is causing this and what I can do to fix the problem? (ie: removing them from the mother plants and stabilizing them somewhere else.)  Thanks a lot.

Most Java ferns new growth has a lighter tip that slowly darkens to the same colour as the rest of the plant.

Are your tips getting darker than the plant itself (i.e. browning or blackening)?

As far as breaking them off, you should wait until there are 3 or 4 two inch leaves on a baby plant before removing it from the main plant.

Are the tips darker than the base of the leaves now, or just the same colour?

It is normal for young shoots to have lighter tips, which then darken with age.

I was wondering were my original post went.  It went in this duplicate thread here (http://ovas.ca/index.php?topic=19626)

Try to stick to one forum for posting... most people will see it   ;)

Overall the young ones are lighter in colour which is normal.  But right now the tips of the young ones are a darker colour than the rest of the leaves.  I don't think this is them maturing to their darker adult colour because it looks unhealthy and even a bit more transparent.
