Post by: james on January 21, 2004, 11:56:18 PM
Hi
Being in this hobby I found that there are a lot of interesting DIY
{do it yourself) ideas  ANd I was wondering if anyone would like to discuss them and share them with our group. I am sure everyone can learn a lot from these ideas.

The following is the current setup for the 20 gal tank, which is 24" in length.

Go to the Canadian Tire and buy 24"  light fixture: $24.99

http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442459259&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374302200077&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303514224&FOLDER%3C%3EbrowsePath=2534374303514240&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374303514240&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395348027&bmUID=1074782574513

Now you will need the cover to put the lights on. I've used a plexiglass sheet,  but it warped within 24 hours and does not look very nice, but it does the job.

Rona will cut the plexiglass sheets to the required size.

If you do not need the cover and you are ok with the open aquarium, then you can just buy "The Shop lights", they come with a decent reflector and will do the job.
