I have a bunch of broad leaf hygro in my tank at various heights. I have one that has finally made it to the surface, but of course the lower third to half no longer has any leaves. What do you guys normally do with this plant. I was thinking that I would cut off the bottom portion, pull it out and replant the top in the same spot?
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff
From what I read about this plant (I have a lot, too), you have to keep it trimmed for it to stay bushy. If you want it tall, it will lose it's bottom leaves.
How about keeping some tall ones in the back, and trim those in front so the bare stems don't show?

A good possibility for the lower half loosing it`s leaves , is because the upper portion is blocking the light from getting the lower portion, i guess i could have said the lower part of the plant needs light :D
Yea i would cut & replant the tops, but as it gets taller the same thing will happen , unless you can somehow allow for more light to get the lower portion of the plant.
Yeah where I have it positioned is behind my rocks so I knew it would lose it's lower leaves and I wanted it to grow nice and tall. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong by trimming, pulling up the stump and replanting the trimming.
But now for ones up front, I have a few smaller ones, if I keep trimming the tops off they'll stay short and bushy?
Thanks,
Jeff
Yup, according to what I read! I'm trying that right now myself.
Jeff, yes for up rooting & topping... and yes for prunning to make bushy.
