Title: what silicone safe for fish?
Post by: james on July 06, 2008, 10:51:28 AM
Hi
I use to use a Canadian Tire brand that says its safe for aquariums , but Canadian tire no longer carries its own silicne. It now carries GE brand. They have type I and II. Which one is safe for aquarium use

Thanks James

Silicone I and Silicone II from GE are both aquarium safe.  They don't say it, but they are.  Just make sure to get the clear stuff (as I don't know about the white one).

Silicone I is aquarium safe.  Silicone II is not, as it contains additives to kill fungus.

Check here.  They call it "BioSeal"

I've personally used heaps of Silicone I and had no problems whatsoever.

My bad, I didn't realize Silicone II isn't safe.  :(
