Title: Eclipse Aquarium
Post by: FreshWaterTank on July 27, 2008, 07:13:21 PM
Looking at starting a species only tank of white cloud minnows. This is my first ever aquarium other than a single betta in a 2 gallon. My local petsmart sells arcylic aquariums made by Eclipse. Would a eclipse system 12 work for a small number of white clouds, does anyone own this type of setup. The only thing I have thought about is if the filter dies can it be replaced? Thanks for any input.

The eclipse is nice because it's all inclusive and enclosed, since the filter is in the hood, I think u may be SOL if the filter burns out, best bet is check the manufacturers website, and see if they offer replacement parts, if they do you know your answer, and this tank should be fine for WC.

There are good points to the Eclipse but you can get better deals buying used from other members.  The eclipse 12 is $120, the replacements filters are $37 http://www.bigalsonline.ca/StoreCatalog/ctl3664/cp18043/si1316717/cl1/marineland_motor_assemblyeclipse_system_12?&query=eclipse+12&queryType=0&offset=.  You can get a nice 10gal tank with lights heater and filter in the classifieds for about $40.  White Clouds (great fish choice BTW) are super easy; I wouldn't spend more then you need to.

Definitely buy from members. I refuse to this day to pay more than 1$ / gallon for a tank since I discovered this site. I regularly see full working setups 10-20 gallons for $40-$50 total. Thats with heater, filter, gravel, ect..  Buy the stuff everyone gets rid of when they upgrade to there dream tanks.
