Title: Biowheel stopped turning
Post by: martin_jones on August 24, 2008, 05:38:30 PM
I have a couple of penguin HOB filters in which the biowheel has stopped. What can I use to lubricate the mechanism so that it will continue to turn with the waterflow?

Thanks

Martin

Have you cleaned the shaft and bushings. Also check to make sure the flow is not restricted due to clogged media or a dirty impeller.

Thats the big difference between the Penguin and the Emperor.  The Penguin relies on flow from the filter itself, whereas the Emperor has a second pump and spraybar just for the biowheels.

If your biowheels on your Penguin have stopped, its more than likely just a good cleaning that is required.  The biowheels only use a simple plastic bearing and there is no need to lubricate them.
