So I finally got my 2215 up and running.....I almost lost my mind trying to get it to prime. I kept getting air bubbles in the intake hose and it wouldn't start. I figured out that there was a little hole in the intake pipe near the water surface just before it leaves the tank. Once I got my water level above this little hole it started up no problem. My question is....what is the point of this little hole? Is it supposed to be there?
Thanks,
Jeff
In a system with a sump, you don't want anything to maintain a siphon when the power goes off. For that reason, people will always put a hole just as you describe in their return lines to prevent that siphon.
As you've got a canister filter - which is a closed loop - there is no need to have such a hole and as you have seen it's only trouble.
I'd recommend you replace that part or seal the hole to prevent air from getting into your uptake.
Like mentioned , it`s not necessary, just apply a dab of silicone.
