Title: What to do with Amazon babies?
Post by: exv152 on January 07, 2009, 10:47:32 PM
Has anyone here ever removed baby swords from the mother plant?  Just wondering if anyone has some good tips.

Yupe, I do that on a regular basis. I let the shoots grow a decent root system (they'll only do that while submersed, in my experience), after which I cut it off and replant if in the same tank (if there is space) or in a different one. Or pass it on to another hobbyist :).

Nice setup, by the way! And welcome to OVAS!!

Can't offer much help on this topic. Though tank looks amazing, what type of setup do you have if you dont mind sharing ?

Thanks.

Thanks, it's a 75 gal tank, with 4x65W Coralife lights, and an Eheim pro II 2026 canister filter.  I have five angelfish, three corydoras, five otos, eleven lemon tetras and eleven zebra danios.

I cut them off leaving 1/2" of stem either side of the crown and floated them in a jar of water in the kitchen windosill with a few crystals of all purpose fert. It started to produce roots and I was going to try one as an emerged houseplant but neglected it as usual and the water fouled in the jar.
