Title: Forum Sponsors and Moderation
Post by: groupie02 on January 20, 2009, 12:45:53 AM
Just so that nobody panics. I've enabled our sponsors to moderate their own forums. This currently has a side effect of showing them as moderators. I will see if I can make their primary role back to Forum Sponsor.

Cheers
Pierre

Well... let's not worry too much. I need more sleep.

Our sponsors are showing up as moderators within their own forum.

Thanks for the addition, it's a great idea!

Maybe we can extend the moderation to other forums: a handful forum-members that have been around could keep an eye on what's going on. This will reduce the load for our APW.2. Of course, there should be no more moderation other then reminding to the clear rules that are in place already.

A moderator could also take care of the site content, initiate the photo-contest, manage the gallery, ....

Use to be like that with members of the executive doing it but the former APW decided he no longer wanted it that way and it has remained like this since.

err well some rampant moderation conducted by someone out to conquer the world and the firestorm of criticism it kicked up had a bit to do with it too . . . .

there is a plan in place to revisit the moderation process in the very near future.

Great to hear that! :)

And yes, I remember why we gave the power back to the APW. We will have to assure that the moderation is appropriate and supportive.

I know it did but meh for better or for worst the power has been with APW2 for a while and I think he has been doing a good job.

I think moderation has been working well. It has been almost a year since the change. Can always look at changes but isn't working now?

I'd like to second that! Great job groupie!
I'm out of the loop now, but I bet no longer having to 'debate' amongst themselves about moderator issues, has helped take some stress off the executives too!

A few of the "moderators" were power tripping and the club decided to do something about it.

That's not true

A few of the "moderators" were power tripping and the club decided to do something about it.

The major reason for the change from all Execs being moderators to one moderator was really due to the inconsistent way that the moderation was taking place and to reduce the "personal judgement" in moderation.  Relying on the forum users to flag questionable content and having one person make the decision on what should be done based on the forum rules reduced the confusion that we were experiencing at the time.

Yes indeed he did....no matter the reason it was a decision he made....

I stand corrected. I thought the Exec as a whole decided. It's not the first time I've been wrong about something and I am sure it won't be the last. No offence meant.

As in most cases with a decision made by the club, a motion is brought forward and we voted on it.  The major changes in regards to the club require a vote and a majority decision by the Exec - this was one of them.

He wanted it done, it was debated, and voted on, same as all executive business.
