Title: looking for lighting advice

CD-16926  Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixtures Dual ;186 watt 36"  $178.49  x    =  $178.49
CD-36004  Nova Extreme SLR T-5 Fixtures 36" x 8" Saltwater; 156 watt  $164.99  x    =  $164.99

I am looking to increase the watts in my 65g, it's a tall tank and curently have 2x Coralife T5 for a total of 84watt.
These 2 are available through Dr Foster online, not sure about the cost of shipping and duty yet though.
Anyone ever order from them?
Would you recommend either of these?
One of them is for saltwater, but I have a freshwater tank, would it really matter?

Thank guys!

it matters..thats why they make fresh and salt light's. the ballasts are diff. the K rating maters on the bulbs. plants and corals need diff light intensity or its just personal preff.. is this for a fresh or salt tank?

I've got a Nova Extreme T5HO 4X 54 watt fixture that I got through Dr Foster and Smith. It is an excellent fixture. As for Dr Foster and Smith they won't ship to Canada without charging insane shipping. But you can have the package shipped to the UPS store in Ogdensburg NY and go pick it up (they ship for free within the US). The UPS store will charge you $5 to accept the package. It's usually worth the trouble as their prices are so low. I picked up my fixture through them for half of what anyone in Canada was charging.

I agree with Jeff1192. I bought some substrate from Dr Foster & Smith, $9.99 shipped anywhere in the US, $200 to my door! Now, granted, live sand requires special paperwork but $200, that's a rip off. I decided to order from them, deliver in the US and import it myself. The UPS store is a great option, don't forget your passport!

The bigger question is what type of fresh water tank are you keeping? ( planted , fish only ?)
The Nova salt water fixtures would work just fine on a fresh water tank, you would probably need to switch out some of the bulbs depending on your application.

Sorry I forgot to address the saltwater thing. My fixture had 2 saltwater bulbs in it but as Charlie said you can just switch them out for the proper spectrum for your application. Even swapping out a couple of bulbs Dr Foster and Smith was incredibly cheap.

Thanks everyone, it is for a freshwater planted tank, but I have been to several of OVAS members homes, my tank is nothing like those amazing tank.. :o  I am one of those crazy people into Fancy goldfish and only keep some plants to make it look more natural.
I will look at getting it shipped to US, so much cheaper!

Anyone know the Satellite compact?  I like the higher wattage and it is freshwater, so wouldn't have to worry about changing all the bulbs.

Since you are keeping Goldies & Plants my guess is you are keeping hardier & low light species of plants, as such those high power lights can be a catalyst for quick algae growth, which i`m not sure you are anticipating, i would suggest you go with a 2 X 54 watt 2x39 watts T5 HO fixture if you want to brighten things up a bit.

Speaking of someone with amazing tanks.... Thanks Charlie!  Algae is not usually a big concern, I have 3 BN Pleco's (OVAS auction!) and they are awesome little algae eating machines!  However, I have seen GREEN tanks and would like to avoid that!
I'll check out the ones you suggest, thanks, but going from 84 to 108watts, will it make any difference?  my plants are pale and sickly looking now.  I keep thinking because it's such a deep tank that maybe I need a little more wattage.

Correction , the T5 high output 36 inch fixtures are usually 2x39 watts & not 2x54 watts as i stated ,so maybe adding 1 2X39 watt T5 HO and 1 of your exsisting 2x21 watt Normal output might be the ticket.

These are really nice lights and they can be added to.
