Title: maxi jet diy mod
Post by: bongo on September 03, 2009, 08:06:10 AM
any guestimate on the flow of these once you cut off the nozzle and drill five holes?

I did this mod yesterday to three mj 1200 and wow... these are way more than 295 gph now

I have no idea what the actual flow rate is, but I did this mod as well and the flow was way too high for my 30G.  I ran it for a couple of weeks and boy, were the corals ever p!$$ed off!   I ended up getting another impeller cover and reverting back to a stock MJ.

yeah I'd imagine that modding a mj for a small tank wouldn't be good since the stock output is enough

I had a stock mj 1200 in a 20g and it was more than enough with two small Korellias

That being said this is a good mod for a 90gsince it not only jump the output put also produce two different flow patterns for each mj

I did this to a 1200 in my 135 gal, and it's on a wave timer. It's awesome! Each time it turns on it flows in a different direction, totally random and powerful! You do have to be careful where you place it though, I had a pretty bad sandstorm the first day.
