Hey has anybody come up with a solution to mounting Mag Drive's in a sump??
they have small holes for suction cups but I can't imagine getting any actually in there.
I'm tempted to epoxy a suregrip magnet to the magdrive... thoughts?
Yeah, you can get the suction cups in there...I did on mine! It's got 4 cups on there that come with the Maxi-Jets.
That said, I don't allow my pump to sit down hard on the cups...it's not really stuck on there. I rely on the pipe(s) above it to more-or-less suspend it in the sump. Yeah, the cups kinda touch bottom, but most of the weight is actually on the pipe it hangs from. This way, I don't get any vibration transferred to the tank. (Not that it vibrates a lot, but I don't like any at all if I can help it.)
I saw one setup on here where the return was drilled through the tank bottom and the Mag was just hanging right off that in the sump. I liked it, but I can't drill the bottom of my tank so the return line hangs over the back. Works pretty much just as well, though.
If you epoxied a magnet on there it sure as heck wouldn't move, but I'd be worried about vibration.
Would the magnet-mount interfere with the impeller as it is magnetic as well? or is it shielded?

I don't think the field would interfere sufficiently to make a difference - if it interfered at all. Maxi-Jet pumps (which I have 2 mounted with the Sure-Grip magnets right now) don't seem to be affected in the slightest, and they're much smaller.
