Title: BH-1000 problem
Post by: Maxthecat on October 26, 2009, 02:14:34 PM
Hey, ive been having this weird problem with my BH-1000, here it is:

If i do a water change, and the water gets bellow the exit pipe, it stops working, well its stil working but its dosent skim at all, like the pump stops pumping, even though its still on, i turn it off and give some time and turn back on and it works fine.

Sometimes it will be running and snap, it stops. Pump is still working but no real flow of water seems to be passing through. Same thing turn it off, then back on after while. But last night it stoped and when i turned it back on this morning, no luck still wont skim... Any help? ideas?

i too have that problem.  The pump will just stop dead..... no humming or nothing. Turn it off and on a few times and its back to normal.  Not sure to what could be causing it, but awesome skimmer imo.

I had the same problem. If you can remove the pump try running it in hot water with vinegar. I think what happens is the impeller becomes gucked up and it stops turning. I believe the 1000 has an external pump so it should be no problem to remove.

I've got 1000-bh I never had a problem with it just that freaking snail went inside the drain pipe that cause me a flood on my room and it just happened ones only. You know when you turn on back your skimmer there's a hose connected to a small valve that there's a two holes connection into it, sometimes there's a water inside that causes of air inside and it makes your pump to push the water slow onto top surface your collection cup as well it push a lot of water too. What I do is make sure that there's no water inside that valve otherwise won't run properly, also when turn on back your skimmer you noticed there is no bubbles that circulating in the chamber, what you do is hold that small valve connected to pump what I meant to say those two holes on top of valve one is connected to hose and one is open hold it for few minutes and let it go as you see the bubbles in chamber slowly it will rise and starting to circulate that would started to skim I hope that help a bit it's kinda turkey to set it up this skimmer you just to play on it until you get the right amount of bubbles inside the chamber. Seriously i never had problem with this skimmer

Found the problem, i disassembled it and found that a crab was sucked in, to survive, he abandoned his shell and left it in the pump, causing the problem. I took out the shell and gave it back to him, he jumped back into it and voila, skimmer back online... for now... have to put some mesh on that
