Hey,
Just wondering. If you have a overflow return going straight down into the sump, does this create a loud splashing sound where the water meets? I heard that you should have the return line submerged about an inch. What if you have two return lines merge before the sump (one vertical one horizontal). Thanks
The way you describe, it would be loud for sure...
The better system involves one down line being 100% flooded (call it a syphon, but some will argue) and a second line that is just a trickle... the flooded line should be into your sump "under water", which gives you 0 noise... (btw, point this at, or connect this to your skimmer for even more bonus points)... the second line will have air and water, so you're best if you can encorporate an up-vent for air escape, and an down-line for water... something "like" a T junction at the sump-end of the second line allows water to go down and air to go up... but the hard smash into a T junction would be a problem...
There was a thread on silent overflows (Maybe it should be sticky.. hint-hint)... I'll see if I can find it and post.
Profound it...
