Title: melted vortech
Post by: salvini55 on January 08, 2010, 07:05:06 AM
this morning I found the wetside of the mp40 spinning in the tank. A snail got in and jammed the prop for the second time. completly melted the wet side and fused it together. Does anyone have a mod for a snail guard or some ideas you could throw my may to keep the little buggers out of there? I tried the sponge but it does nothing to keep snails out..

Interesting problem.  I'd suggest putting a piece of gutter guard across the front of it.  I don't know if you'd want to glue it on there or what, but it wouldn't impact flow much at all and it's cheap as dirt.

The best solution would be to get rid of all your tiny snails...

I believe Funk was referring to something like this... available at your local hardware store.

Judging from all the colors available you could have the fanciest most hip vortech wetside in town!

I have some of that lying around I think. I wonder if it will affect the flow negativly or if it will be ok. Ill give it a try thanks

If you don't have any, I'm in Nepean and I've got a roll of it.

Absolutely no doubt that this will mess with your flow...

But no where near as bad as a snail will... so lesser of 2 evils right?

When I say melted I dont mean went up in flames and melted to a pile of goo, rather the bearing melted/grinded the wetside enough to sieze the prop.

I will go the lesser of two evils, cut my losses and count my gains

I ended up sewing an old fish net to the front of the vortech. It was red so it looks cool  ;)
