Title: Microsorium pteropus (Java Fern)
Post by: pminister on March 30, 2010, 04:08:06 PM
Are there different species of Java Ferns. B/c the ones i have have in my tank, are about 2cm ish wide. While some that I have seen in stores, or online tend be wider and grow in height.

Is there something I am not doing, where the growth of Java Ferns in my tank just seems tiiiiny?

Hi,

I believe the differences in leaf size is attributed to different light conditions. The brighter the light, the more compact the plant and smaller the leaves. Stores have pretty dim lighting, so their plants tend to be leggier and have bigger leaves from what I've seen.
