Title: 500+ Monster
Post by: Tsukiyomi-sakura on April 23, 2010, 04:09:51 PM
So Only me and My roomie have known till now but, We plan to build down the road once we have all the equipment sorted out a 500g+ tank that will house mostly tangs.

The tank is going to be no taller then 30 inches
and it is being designed to fit through a door in the end.

Start up is fish only then moving into corals, To solve the energy lighting problem on a tank this big we are going to use the pendants BUT not over the whole tank, hand made live rock pillars will be situated under these lamps and this is where the corals will go, low light stuff will go around said pillars but the design is a large fish's dream (lots of open space with a few caves)

So the excess light will keep the tank lit but there is still enough directly under the light for corals.

More to come later.

Did I mention I really Like tangs lol  ;D

This is the main focus for this system, when in a large enough group they school which is what I am after

I Already have:

Yellow tang
Naso tang
Foxface (no spot)

Some of my choices are going to be:

Shoal tang (red sea)
Purple tang
Black tang ( I know expensive but it's going to be worth it)
Hippo tang
scopas tang (some say the colour is ugly but I think they are the cutest little things)

and Of course I'm going to stock other species, Such as

Royal gramma basslet
firefish pair (maybe I don't like how docile they are)
Blue devil damsel (3-4 of these while most damsels are nasty I rather like blue devils)
Hawain flame wrase ( I'm not very educated on this one yet so any info helps)
Possibly some chormis or other small fish I'm still undecided.

Sounds like a great project.

We have a Sohal Tang, he's about 10 inches long.

Absolutely gorgeous fish.

Looking forward to the build.

I saw a flame wrasse in Pat's display, I had been looking at getting one but was unsure about how well they did, This seals the deal.

+1 Flame wrasse

Also looking into the possibility of Anthia's

how about flame angel, i'd find this pgyme angel safer than ther other dwarf angel. the coloration would do great in your tank with sps, lps or purple firefish. this is my current fish in my tank and pair of b/w darwin clown.

I had a flame Previously in my 150 And while the colours were gorgeous I really disliked the attitude of the fish.

I'm going to try to avoid any coral nippers

I have a 120 stocked with Tangs - enjoyable, but they are mostly timid... I have a hippo, a powder blue, a Kole Tang, yellow and a pair of clowns. Considering adding an anthia or two.

I do have to feed the tank seaweed constantly.

My fav has to be the Kole tang - he's a beuatiful fish. The powder blue is nice too.. but a big chicken.
