Title: 3g pico tank project
Post by: ordi260 on June 28, 2010, 06:28:38 PM
Hi!

I am planning on building a small 3g SW tank.

Livestock planned so far is:

1 tiger pistol shrimp and a small goby to pair with

Corals when time comes  ;)

So I tought of 2 things:

1:  3 gallon with a modded AC50 or 70 that will house a small fuge and heater (possibly carbon if needed).

OR

2: 3 gallon (or a little bigger...lets say 5gallon that I will split and create an overflow area with surface skimming (plexiglass sheet with teeths on the top.  Where the fuge, heater, carbon and posibly a nano skimmer.  All this hidden behind the black plexiglass wall.  I could an small maxi jet (i think of a 400) as a return pump with this design.  Ill end the line with a flexible loc-line style nozzle for better flow control.

What setup would you choose?

Any idea for the lighting?  Id like to put some SPS in there at some point so i want pretty strong lighting!

thanks

al

what i learned with my daughters pico is.... filtration / water changes, lots of WC's..
.
.

i thought that a singe AC30 modded to fuge would be fine, --- WRONG.

i thought adding a second AC30 with sponges and carbon would be fine, --- ehh, still had dead spots.

i thought by adding a small AC10 power head for more flow, would do it, ---- ehh, i still want more.

.
.

i would measure the size of the tank and add the LARGEST size of HOB filter u can find. and even add a small submersible pump.

--gotta put the little one to bed, ill drop some more info a bit later man.

I used to have a 5 gal nano used a skimmer and a koralia nano for lighting I had a 65w pc on it, had no probs keeping sps because the tank was so small I did 80% wc every 2 weeks
