Title: Ikea Desk Lamp - Over Wattage Bulb
Post by: pminister on June 28, 2010, 11:32:52 PM
Quick question people. I plan on buying those clamp on desk lamps from Ikea, to use it over one my planted tanks. And it says the max watt bulb I can use is 60watt.

I am assuming it would be fine. But I want to be sure, before I get the lamp on fire. I was planning on using the 42w(cfl)=150w(incandescent), would that be ok ?

Floro's can get hot but at that wattage the bulb is usaully pretty huge and will stick out further then the lamp holder.  they max rate them for 60watts due to heat, so I would say just watch it for the first 24 hours and see how it does.. With the bulb out further then the casing I don't think there will be TOO much heat build up.  But don't
