Title: Something better than GE Silicone I
Post by: pm on June 23, 2011, 06:14:00 PM
Hi all,

I am going to reseal a 48 gallon bowfront.  I would like to use the strongest silicone out there that is safe.  I have read that GE RTV108 is a good option.  Anyone know where you can get this (1 tube only, not bulk) or something similar in the Ottawa area?  If I cant get it I will use GE Silicone I, but was hoping to use something stronger for peace of mind.

Thanks

Try Preston Hardware.  I believe that I've seen some of the RTV adhesives there, although they might not have that particular one.  In addition, some of the LFS carry tank-building grade silicone, but I don't recall the brand..

Try SC1200. Most professionals use that for building aquariums.

Rybren - I work close to Preston hardware so I will check them out tomorrow.

fischkopp - SC1200 (or is it SCS1200) was another type mentioned when doing my web search.  Any idea's who would carry it?

I got it at Brown & Macfarlane Glass. I also saw it at Fishtails.
