Title: duckweed, ammonia and cycling
Post by: blackvelvet on June 28, 2011, 06:15:22 PM
hey!
i was wondering about the effect of duckweed on cycling considering its supposed ravenous hunger for nitrogen compounds.will it compete with the bacteria resulting in possibly both suffering?the 5.5g im working on is going to be heavy planted whithin a week and a half.i started it on marimo balls and duckweed.will be looking at crypts  and dwarf hairgrass.im wondering if a "quiet cycle" could be achieved this way or if im  ruining my chances at a healthy bacterial colony early on.the tank has ghost shrimp and 2 young cories for now.thanks in advance.
