Title: ?????? Lighting for African Cichlids
Post by: elk on September 05, 2011, 06:42:01 AM
I recently setup a 75g and using  2 48 inch T12 Daylight 40 watts each.
The bulbs cost 6.98 for the pair at HomeDepot.
They light up the tank great but not sure if im getting the full effect on the colous of my fish.
I have posted some pics of my setup under Freshwater Tank Build.
What are you using?
I would love some input.

Thanks

Louie

On my 125g Malawi tank I'm using 2 38 inch eclipse natural daylight bulbs and I like the colour of the tank and fish. If there is something better I can get I'm open to it...maybe I don't know what I'm missing...

T8 lights should work in your fixture as they have the same pin size as T12 bulbs. They put out a lot more light per watt than a T12 will.

50/50 lights work well for africans. Half white and half blue, they will bring out the colours a lot more, especially blues, yellows and anything iridescent,  which are all quite common in africans.
