Well as mentioned i`m in the final phase of consolidating my tanks, this will result in the 20 gallon long & 15 gallon shrimp tank finding home in a 25 gallon tank, so who says 20+15 does not equal 25 ;)
Change of plans midstream- keeping the 15 gallon shrimp but replaced the 20 long with the 25 gallon starfire :P
Thanks to Wolfiewill for picking up the tank from Aquainspiration
I will be prepared to be astounded once again :)
The bits & pieces :)

Does the styrofoam stay? Or is that just so you don't scratch the tank?
Looking good so far!

Forgot to add
Filtration - tried the eheim proII 2026, but was too much flow, so i went with the Eheim eco comfort 2236 & still had to throttle it back a tad.
Heating- Hydor ETH 200 watt in line heater
Future install will be a Reffkeeper Lite 1 from Ray`s Aquatic supplies
Ironic, I bought the same tank about a month ago, a fire 60x40x40cm, and have been pondering many options. But I want to get my hands on some aquasoil so the tank's just been sitting there. I also plan on putting a 2236 on the tank, so I'm really interested in seeing how yours turns out. What kind of stand are you going with?

The stand is a Hagen pre fab stand bought used from an OVAS club member, i had to lay a piece of 1/2 inch plywood to extend the depth so it would accommodate the foot print of the tank.
The aquascpaing / planting is all complete, filled & fish transferred over, will wait a bit for the transfer of some CRS, i Will post a pic or 2 a bit later, any comments and or critique welcomed.
After reading all your build threads, will be cool seeing how you consolidate those two tanks!
here are some quick snap shots of the tank in it`s for now finished state
Charlie,
Where did you get the Axelrod blue rasboras? Is it a local store?
Hey Charlie, looks pretty good for a newly setup tank, I'm sure it's going to grow-in nicely. I've been also contemplating making my own amano style stand, and going with a pendant light for mine. What kind of CO2 regulator/cylinder did you go with? I can see it barely peering out from behind in one of the photos.

Thanks, yes should not be too long before everything takes off & grow in.
The Co2 rig is a 5 lb Aluminum bottle -Cornelius regulator with Clippard solenoid & Swagelok needle valve, the co2 is diffused with a Fluval ceramic diffuser.
Looks great, Errol!
Thanks, will update as the time goes by.

[/s]After 2 weeks & some some minor tweaks was done this weekend, namely i added a single strip of a sunbalster T5 HO 24 watt with a reflector for better light spread ( now 3 x 24watt)
and some plants has being removed - Diandra ,Blyxa Japonica & lilaeopsis
added some Rotala Macandra that was grown emersed so it`s going to take a bit to settle in & start growing in ( transition) & Rotala pussila.
Changed bulbs out with new Gieseman midday & UVL Aquasun.
The moss is taking hold & the Creeping jenny is doing well infact i trimmed it already
I also added some Crystal Red Shrimp & Amano shrimp.
I will update pictures later.

Looking forward to pictures. How is it working out with the PPS dosing?

I find it is very lean dosing as such i have bumped the phosphate up a bit & will slowly continue doing so until i get my desired level of 2 PPM outside of that it is working great for that tank.
Regards
so here goes some quick snap shots of the tank, nothing fancy.
I also changed the background to black vinyl, the Blue was not cutting it since it was washing out the colour of the rasboras, let me tell you that was a job since the blue background was regular aquarium background applied with Vaseline before the tank was put on the stand, removing the Vaseline to accept the Black vinyl in cramped quarters was a test of my new found Patience ;D

I must say it was well worth the trouble, the black background work so much better and really shows of the aquascape!

Looks Awesome Errol!
Tank looks great man, sure hope I can scape a tank that nice sometime! Glad your on this forum!
Thanks for your kind remarks guys.
Josh it`s only a matter of time for you.
update: The scape was not really sitting well with me & i have decided to switch things up a bit work in progress & will post update when it`s all said & done :).
How did you get the moss to adhere to the wood? Did you tie a bunch of it by hand, and did you use thread?

I first tried the ctazy glue method but thta did not work well for me, so my next try i did the thread method., that wood is now in my shrimp tank :)

well as stated , i just was not totally happy with the the scape, can`t really pinpoint what exactly , so did some tweaks including removing the drift wood with moss & adding rocks instead i will give it a dew days & see how i feel, your suggestions & comments are welcome.
I have also switched the light fixture to a Tek 4X24 T5HO fixture ( thanks Chris) , as a result of the higher intensity of the 4 bulbs I had to raise the fixture some 10 inches off the top of the tank & blank one bulb since this fixture does not allow the removal of one bulb & allow the other to work, the benefit of this fixture is a better light spread
Looks incredible!
IMO looks better now. I am by no means an expert, but I find that wood (especially when covered in moss) just takes up too much space in smaller tanks. Makes them look too cluttered. Rocks for hardscape seem to work better.
Thanks Guys, Peter you have hit the nail on the head, i was just commenting last night that the Drift wood was creating a very cramped scape, as much as i liked the look of the moss on the wood it had to go & has found residence in the shrimp tank.
Thanks & comments & suggestions always welcome.
Looking better than before. Less plants is good, but it's too uniform green for me. Need to add some focal points, either dark green plants or something reddish. :)

Thanks Robert, the reddish has already made it`s presence ;)
Just so that Peter don`t feel bad about constantly changing things ;D
moved some rocks, moved & added a few plants
added a plant filter yea some more plants :P ;D joke
Oh almost forgot, i got my switched co2 stainless co2 diffuser, so far it works just about the same as the fluval diffuser which is a fraction of the price of the stainless one ;)
Increased co2 saturation
also switched to EI dosing , tried the PPS pro as posted earlier in the build, but found it too limiting in this tank.
The Macandra is now starting to settle in, since purchasing it in it`s emersed form.
I think that`s it

I notice a few things that the AI presenters mentioned....
rocks from largest at the front to smaller at the back ...giving the illusion of more depth
focal point at 1/3 mark of the tank
but I think you are talking about the intake and output on the same, short side
either way....you do good work sir
Intake and outflow on the same side :)

Yea it`s longer than yours, so it`s nestled in between the glosso.
Skinning the stand looks great! I debated about doing something similar, even with the same panelling from HD, but couldn't figure out an easy way to access the storage inside the unit once skinned, so I am painting instead. Can you still access the storage inside, or do you have to remove the full skin to do so?

Peter, the skins are all separate ( 3 panels) held on via magnetic latches so i have full access.
I only lightly sanded the MDF panel & applied a few coats of clear satinfinishh.
I found the finish on the MDF panels @ HD to be sub par, i guess its OK if you are painting it, but i got mine from Rona, much better finish, a buck or 2 cheaper & more designs. I will be doing all my stands with it.

Alright pardon my ignorance but can you guys elaborate on what "skinning the stand" is? So you basically bought some panelling, slap some magnets on it and stick it on the stand?

Looks like you have the potential for another beaut here Errol. Only suggestion is the vals look a bit out of place to me. Maybe some balansae would provide a similar look but more texture? Looks great already though. Love the rocks over the driftwood.

So often we read & hear of generalized comments that Crystal Red Shrimp is sensitive to Nitrates & high Co2 etc , i have no doubt that may be true for the higher grades but here is evidence it`s not across the board for all CRS.
I added a few babies a short time ago when i started the tank as an experiment, this tank was switched from the PPS pro style fertilizeing regiment to the Estimative Index regiment maintaining an approx nutrient level of about 20 PPm of Nitrates, 5ppm of phosphates, 40 ppm of co2, the babies are no longer babies & othere than a loss of 2 that i can tell, the others are doing fine & enjoying life.
Errol
That is good to know, Errol. I would like to add some to my CO2 tank, but was a bit hesitant. I have the ones I got at the auction in my little 10 gallon LED tank and they seem to be doing very well. I took the neons out and put them in the 66 gallon planted tank (where they were intended to go), and it is all shrimp in the 10 gallon now.
I have always fertilized sparingly in the LED tank, just .5 ml Flourish Comprehensive every couple of weeks, and Excel. So far, everyone seems to be fine; lively and eating.
That is a very nice picture of the crs in your tank :)

Try a couple in the CO2 tank & see how they do.
A view from my eye level when sitting, the Glosso was ripped up last Thurs. for the giant auction & some replanted , it has started to fill in again.
I probably would never see them again in the jungle! I most likely will try a few in the CO2 tank at some point, though.
I made up a batch of the Repashy Shrimp Souffle and they loved it. Now I am cooking for shrimp :)

One sweet looking tank, as usual ;)
BTW, I grabbed one of those surface skimmers like the one you have in the tank there and am loving it on the open top, keeps it crystal clear.

I got mine at Pet Circus on Bank, mine's an AquaClear but really it's the same as the Fluval one except mine comes with an extra adapter that allows you to hook it up to a HOB filter, I just tossed it and hooked it up directly to my canister intake.
You have to tweak it a little when you first set it up to get the flow right but once dialed in, it works like magic, open top is crystal clear, no more muck.

Right Back is Staurogyne sp. - Thanks Robert
Left back -Heteranthera zosterifolia/star Grass - Thanks Ken
just off center tot he right of the Heteranthera zosterifolia is -Ludwigia arcuata.
Fish - Rummy nose tetras, axlerod blue rasboras, glow light tetras, cherry shrimp, BN plecos, pygmy cories & SAE.

I find it to be a medium growing rate, definitley not fast in my tank.
I finally got around to stripping this tank of the Fluval stratum which served me well for almost 2.5 Yrs. & get it ready for the much Hyped ADA Amazonia soil.
This process was more than I anticipated, I removed all livestock, plants & hardware, then came the fun part of removing a ton of mud cake ;D.
I retained some of the mud sludge to layer the bottom of the cleaned tank, after all it had accumulated to good stuff over the years, then came the new Amazoina, scaping & replanting what wanted for my new scape.
I have replanted with Ammannia ssp. 'Bonsai,Staurogyne repens ,Japanese ( Belem) hair grass
with the Dragon stone as my hard scape.
The livestock went back in5 days later after I felt assured I had no Ammonia readings - thanks to that old mud layer & the fully matured filter that was running on this tank, I wish the plants was as easy as the livestock.
I battled some algae issues for a few weeks & it appears things are finally on the up swing, hardest hit was the belem hair grass, this is now starting to re establish itself ( thankfully)
I will update as the plants become matured & trimmed.

Thanks SAS & Eric, much appreciated.
Eric the plant you referring to is not a Rotala, it does bare similar looks, it`s Ammannia
ssp. 'Bonsai.
The description says it gets red, but I`m yet to see that , not worried though as I like the color it has now.

Haha you're back at it eh - i like the older scape with the secondary colour in the back but I bet this will grow on me. The rocks seem a little too spaced out and I wish the main rock was a little taller but its a nice scape regardless. Very nice carpet. Just DHG and S. Repens ?
Yes Rah jus the hair grass & Belem. The Amannia ssp. was asking for too much grooming :P , so I took it out.
I may add a few more small rocks.
Thanks
Nice work! I really like the grass! Will have to try it one of these days.
Nice Errol, I like the dimensions of this tank better 60x40 cm lends well to aquascaping. Also, the black background is nice too because it makes the colours in the grass and rock pop.
Thanks guys.
