Title: New Algae eater, Garra flavatra
Post by: Fishnut on August 23, 2012, 03:20:47 PM
As I was chatting with Jason at Critter Jungle about my tanks, he told me about a type of tiny algae eater that he has in stock.  It looks just like a bumble bee goby but it's not.  What a cute little fish...AND it like seasonally cooler temps, so it'll fit in perfectly with my mini fish tank!

It's adorable - how many did you get?
It's certainly a better sized fish for most tanks than an SAE.

I got 4.  There were 6, but one had a wonky looking eye and the other one was determined not to get caught. :)

They don't but Amano shrimp do.  Get an army of them and your hair algae will slowly but surely get eaten away.  Just don't feed them much so they stay hungry enough to eat it instead of filling up on other foods.

So these little guys are just personality plus!!  I have them in a 5 gallon QT (they're not quite an inch yet) and they've been amazing to watch...not shy at all!  I tried giving them some brine shrimp.  They loved it.  One grabbed a piece of shrimp the size of it's head ::)  I'm getting more when they're available for sure.

I have 3 of these guys, also called Panda Garra

They keep my 30 gallon clean of algae,
I have to drop in algae wafers to feed the bristlenose pleco,
otherwise he would starve ;)
