Title: Cuts and Scrapes
Post by: hobo on September 02, 2012, 10:26:36 AM
Do to my occupation I have numerous cuts and scrapes on my hands and fingers and  I  was wondering if it's ok to be dunking my hands it the tank all the time for pruning and replanting. I have MTS and some Nerites I also dose Excel. Also I was rinsing out my filter media (pot scrubbies from dollar store) in one of my two Aqua Clear 50/200s and it has MTS in it. is this OK for them to be in there ?

You could get these gloves if you're worried.

The first part of your question is really subjective. Some people have sensitivities or allergies to certain things and their skin can reacte after sticking it in a tank. It really depends. Bloodworms can cause a common reaction in a great number of folks, especially if you touch your eyes after touching dry or frozen BWs.

Then there's the more serious condition of catching TB which some aquarium fish may have, it's rare, but real. See link below. But to be safe don't stick you arm/hand in a tank if you have open wounds. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=4018 (http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=4018)

Thanks

I think I'll go for the gloves I want to keep my hands
sad that someone has to go through that over a fish tank.

There was a story a while back on the radio, and then in the papers about how some people caught a flesh eating bacteria from their aquarium... Since then, I've been wearing gloves when doing ANYTHING in the tank.
