Got a sweet deal on a really cool tank today.
48"x12"x12"
Lighting is going to be 4x54w T5HO
I haven't had much time to work on it or plant much yet...But I'll be working on it over the next few days for sure. So excited!
Nice! Super cool tanks, I believe they come out to 33gal, so feel free to squeeze a couple more fish in there ;)
Very cool
Awesome! I didn't know those tanks existed. Now I need to find one!!
The 33L is a very nice tank. I set up one of these as a high-current tank (http://ovas.ca/forum/index.php?topic=28046.0) a few years back, and it's still going. Add a large school of tetras and watch them going back and forth in the tank. Quite a sight! You will have a lot of fun with this tank!

X2 ;)
I have seen fischkopp`s tank & one other from fishnut, really nice tank.
Consider your tank`s height & the amount of light over it (4x54 watts), makes it harder to balance things with so much intensity over such a shallow tank.

Mmmmmmmmmmm really like this tank as well, Christmas is just around the corner.
I can't wait to see what you do with this tank as well, keep us posted please :).
Nice setup, I would also caution on the lighting intensity, and suggest planting it heavily.
Woah! Nice foot print! Looking forward to seeing it set up. Massive iwagumi with schools of tetras? :p
Very nice! I have been keeping my eye open for a 24 gal long (36"x12"x12") for some time, but you don't see too many of these long narrow short tanks (and yours) too often. Great find!

Please please please, I hope you keep checking this thread to help me if I get stuck. I am currently only running 2 bulbs until the plants get going. This of course has nothing to do with the fact that I only managed to find 2 of the 4 bulbs I wanted;) But I will start slow.

Thanks! I love my plants:) This is the main reason I'm so excited about this tank. With barely any hardscape I will have room for TONS of plants!

Lol I have very little scaping skills. I would love to do something nice...But for now I will settle for just growing lots of stuff.
I am thinking of using this as a dwarf cichlid tank...opinions? Here are pics of the fishes I would like to re-house in this tank. My "sunset"? as well as my cockatoo and his girlfriend.
And to everyone else I haven't responded to, thanks for the positive comments and stay tuned for pictorial updates. It's crazy cloudy now but I will post pics with more plants later today as I work over my other tanks.
love the tank dimensions wicked find!!

My "sunset"?
Looks like it to me, a nice female. Did you find them locally, recently?

I believe the sunset may have been local. Not sure, I'd have to check. I'm really hoping it turns out to be a male. It acts like one.
Here's a pic as of this afternoon. Its a shame the plants in the background arent visible....But that'll come.

Sorry, it's a female for sure. With attitude in your case. :) I find that apisto's form the "baenschi" complex (body shape) tend to be more aggressive/determined to defend their territory.
Like how the tank is coming along. For keeping several apistos in there I would try to break the "line of sight" a bit more by adding more rocks/wood/big leaf plants.

Awww nuts. I was hoping it would color and shape up to be male. I'll have to keep my eyes open now for another...Or see what happens when I add the cacatuoids??? Is this a possibility? I'm embarassed to ask, I really dont know:(
As for breaking the line of sight....I'm hoping to plant the tank to the point where the plants arent visible for the plants and plants and plants. Hopefully this works and is an acceptable solution to hardscape? I'm happy to finally have somewhere to put all my trimmings. Compost is such a dirty word :(
I have seen apisto females developing male features after dominated males passed away. But in most cases they would not look like a mature male. Not sure if they change sex fully, not what triggers it; it remains one of the stranges things I experienced. I have seen this with three different apisto species.
I think the tank is big enough to house several apisto. 2-3 pairs for smaller/calmer apisto species should find enough space. It depends a bit on the personality of the apisto I find. If in doubt, add more. Bigger numbers are always better as aggression is spread over more individuals.
I LOVE my tank of that size!!! I wish I could have more. I think they sell them at BA's?
I agree in the lighting comment. I think 4 would be too much for a tank of that depth.
Looking forward to seeing it develop!

I'm assuming I'd be better off adding multiple females for each type in the tank? More males=more fights?

Thank you! And I keep hearing that my lighting is too much. I BELIEVE you all and thank you all for the advice and help. It's funny, the more good advice I get, the more determined I am to make it work my way.
I will humbly accept an "I told you so" from each and every member that warned me, when and if this tank goes green and brown and hairy.
Stay tuned, I update frequently.
Here's how it looked this afternoon. Still crazy cloudy but better than yesterday. I used 4 biomax pellets from another tank.
Day 3. Getting there. Need more plants. Still waiting on my canister.
Another update. More plants. Reading: .25 nitrite. Come on, come on, come on!!!! ;) Hopefully picking up my 2nd set of bulbs tomorrow as well as a canister.
Looks great dude. The pics don't do it justice!
Thanks for the plants too
No worries, I'll have more soon hopefully. Thanks for the compliment. Got my canister setup today as well as an additional 2 bulbs, which I'm running:p I said I'd wait but meh. Tank basically looks the same, but brighter. Reading .25 nitrite. Waiting impatiently.
First residents are going to be shrimp to clean things up a bit. will post a pic in the next few days
You know what would look great on the left hand side next to the glass? A Red Tiger Lotus plant ;D
I planted some moneywort in the back left corner...for a friend. long story.
I think I have a red lotus starting in another tank that I could move...Unless you're offering? ;)
Tank finished cycling!!! Shrimp and snails tomorrow!!! Doubtfully, but possibly a fish. Probably not. Pics tomorrow.
Shrimp in. And, I couldnt resist. Fish in. Two pics. Enjoy.
I'll be picking out snails to add at random over the next few days from other tanks as well. Everything but assassins!!!
update.
1x apisto
shrimps
ramshorn and pond snails
4 SAE
Plants are growing well. Slight green layer on center rocks. Things are going well:)
Looking really good... Is that frogbit you have on the surface?

It is Salvinia:) As the tank is not tall I went with a floating plant that doesnt develop super long hanging roots.
